Why seamless
A seamless gutter comes off a machine on the truck as one piece from corner to corner. Sectional gutters from a home center have a joint every ten feet, and every joint is a place for sealant to dry out in a San Antonio August. Sizing for San Antonio storms
Our rain total is modest. Our rain rate is not. The May and October storms that do the damage here put an inch or two on the roof in an hour, and the standard 5-inch gutter with 2x3 downspouts was drawn up for places where rain falls all afternoon at a polite pace. We calculate roof area per downspout and use:
- 5-inch gutters with 3x4 downspouts on most single-story homes. The bigger downspout alone adds about 60% capacity for a few dollars more.
- 6-inch gutters with 3x4 downspouts on two-story homes, steep roofs, metal roofs (water comes off them fast), and any run collecting a large roof area.
- A downspout every 30–35 feet, not one per side. One 2x3 on a 50-foot run is the single most common reason a San Antonio gutter overflows.
Materials and colors
Aluminum in .032 gauge, which is heavier than the .027 that most crews use and holds up better to hail. More than 25 baked-on colors to match trim, fascia or a standing-seam roof. Gutter replacement in San Antonio
The most common replacement is a 1980s–90s sectional aluminum system on a house in Castle Hills, Windcrest or the older parts of Stone Oak: seams weeping, spike hangers backed out on the sunny side, one flattened downspout from a hail year. Replacement includes:
- Removal and haul-away of the old gutters and downspouts
- A fascia check, with any rotted board replaced before anything new goes up (priced per foot; usually a board or two)
- New seamless gutters, corners, end caps and downspouts
- Extensions or splash blocks so water lands four to six feet from the slab
- A water test before we leave
Tear-off is included in the per-foot price. It isn't a separate line, and if someone else's quote has it as one, ask why.
Homes that never had gutters
Around half the installs we do here are on houses that were built without gutters. That's a first-time job with its own page, first-time gutter installation, because the questions are different: which sides need them, where the water can go on a lot that's mostly rock, and whether partial coverage is enough. Short answer: usually the sides over the entry, the garage and the AC unit, and yes, partial is often the right call.
What it costs
Seamless aluminum installed runs about $9–$14 per linear foot in the San Antonio area. Installation day
The crew arrives with the coil and the machine. Old gutters come down, fascia gets probed and any soft board replaced, each wall is measured and the run formed to length on the spot. Corners are sealed with polyurethane, downspouts strapped every eight feet, extensions set, and we run a hose through every run before we pack up. How long does gutter installation take?
One day for most homes. We measure and quote on the first visit, order the coil in your color, and the crew forms and hangs the gutters on install day. Large two-story homes with a lot of corners occasionally run into a second morning, and we'll say so up front.
Should I get 5-inch or 6-inch gutters in San Antonio?
Six-inch on two-story homes, metal roofs, steep pitches and any run that collects a big roof area; five-inch with 3x4 downspouts on most single-story homes. We work it out from the roof rather than guessing, because undersizing is why so many gutters here overflow in a May storm.
Do new gutters come with a warranty?
The aluminum finish carries a manufacturer's warranty of 20 years or more against peeling and fading. Our workmanship — leaks, pitch, hangers — is covered for the first year, and we come back after the first big storms if anything needs adjusting.
Can you install gutters on a tile or metal roof?
Yes, both are common here. Tile roofs need the gutter set lower and hangers that don't disturb the tile; metal roofs shed water fast, so we go to 6-inch with 3x4 downspouts and use hangers rated for the load. Both are priced on the same estimate after we've seen the roof edge.
